November 11 is Veterans Day, a day to honor our former and current military veterans. No matter what role they play, big or small, our veterans deserve our respect and attention.
Veterans Day originally began as Armistice Day, a celebration of the end of World War I on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. An act of Congress in 1938 designated November 11 as a federal holiday, and in 1954, an amendment to the act changed the title from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.
Overseas, many nations refer to the day as Remembrance Day, with a few countries still calling it Armistice Day. Regardless of the name of the holiday, countries across the world choose November 11 to honor the military men and women who serve to protect their ideals.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs holds a ceremony every year at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony, beginning at precisely 11 a.m., consists of laying a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknowns, a parade of colors by veterans' organizations, and comments from dignitaries and military officials. Local ceremonies occur at Veterans Affairs offices throughout the country, with many cities hosting parades or other related events.
The Department of Veterans Affairs urges everyone to show their support of veterans in any way they can. Use the hashtag #HonoringVets on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to share your stories and show your thanks and gratitude to our nation's veterans.
Browsing the internet today, we found this heartwarming story about a former RAF pilot who flew in World War II. Harold Percival died last month with no family left to attend his funeral. Locals saw his funeral notice in the newspaper and posted it on Twitter and other social media sites asking if anyone could attend. His story went viral, and earlier today, more than 300 people braved the cold, rainy weather to attend his funeral service.
Here at TJM Promotions, we have a few employees who are veterans:

We thank them for their service and we are honored to have them here with us!
For Veterans Day, it's important we honor America's veterans for their service, sacrifices and patriotism, and remember that without them, we would not have the freedoms we celebrate today.
