The Little League World Series is an exciting event every August. Kids from all around the world meet in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania to determine who will be the champion for the current year.
With such a large amount of talent in one place, it’s almost always a guarantee that the unpredictable will happen. That’s certainly been the case for the past few years, and we thought we’d gather a few of the incredible moments from the past five years of LLWS baseball!
5.) The 2012 LLWS U.S. Championship between Tennessee and California:
What a doozy. Down by 10 runs, 15-5, things didn't seem hopeful for the California team going into the bottom of the 6th inning (the final inning for Little League games). But, surprising darn near everyone, California managed to put 10 runs on the board, tying the game at 15. What was even more surprising, however, was when Tennessee then scored 9 runs in the top of the 7th inning. California wasn't able to answer with another rally, and the game ended with a final score of 24-16. The game was a real roller coaster of emotions!
4.) Coach Dave Belisle's Post-Game Speech at the 2014 Little League Baseball World Series:
In one of the best displays of sportsmanship ever, Coach Dave Belisle of the Cumberland American Little Leaguers of Providence, Rhode Island delivered an inspiring speech to his team after they were eliminated from the Series. Where do we sign up to have Coach Belisle deliver daily motivational speeches for us?
3.) Mo'ne Davis Dominates at the 2014 LLWS:
Mo'ne Davis, the first female pitcher at the Little League World Series to win a game (and pitch a shutout), took the world by storm in 2014. Able to throw a 70-mph fastball at age 13, Mo'ne went on to receive quite a bit of media attention. She was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year, as well as the Sports Illustrated Sportskid of the Year. She was featured on the front cover of the August 25, 2014 Sports Illustrated magazine, her jersey was donated to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and in 2015, she won the ESPY Award for Best Breakthrough Athlete from ESPN. We can't wait to see what's in store for this exceptional young athlete!
2.) Mekhi Garrard:
Sometimes, it's not all about winning. During the 2015 Little League World Series, Mekhi Garrard was pitching for the Midwest Region team from Missouri. The Midwest team was losing in a shutout to the Mid-Atlantic Region team from Pennsylvania. The bases were loaded with Cole Wagner at bat. Wagner hit a soaring grand slam to deep center field, scoring four more runs and bringing the score to 18-0.
Instead of being upset, Garrard instead had an incredulous smile on his face, as he exclaimed "Wow!" while watching the ball fly out of the park. Talent recognizes talent. Isn't that what sports are all about? Way to go, kid.
1.) Cash Money:
In the 2014 Little League World Series, a young man named Blake Money pitched for the aforementioned Tennessee team (who also faced Mo'ne Davis.) ESPN aired the games on television, and the network asked the players if they had any siblings, what their favorite foods were, and so on.
Blake mentioned that he has three brothers: Morgan, Logan, and Cash. Yesâ¦Cash Money. Upon hearing this, the cameras found him sitting in the stands. We all might as well give up now, because we will NEVER be as cool as Cash Money:
