Don’t panic!
How many times have we all heard that command, often while in the middle of a crisis of some sort? Well, now’s your official chance to ignore it.
June 18th is officially International Panic Day. It’s your opportunity to rebuke the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and panic any way you want. Let the stress flow!
OK, it’s a lighthearted approach, but the real purpose of the day is to call attention to a serious mental health issue that affects millions of people worldwide. It’s to encourage people to recognize the stress in our everyday lives and to not be afraid to reach out and seek help.
Too often, we fail to appreciate the seriousness of mental health issues. For some people, panic disorders and other issues are a source of shame. The goal of Panic Day and similar mock holidays is to erase that feeling of shame.
Raising Awareness is the Key
One of the ways to do that is by spreading awareness. Custom wristbands are an outstanding means to do that. From quiet beginnings more than two decades ago, silicone wristbands have become one of the leading ways to raise funds and increase public awareness for many causes.
While their popularity has faded somewhat from their peak a few years ago, wristbands remain a viable fundraising option for many causes. The reason is simple – they’re affordable.
The economics of wristbands simply work. The more you order, the lower the cost per wristband, and the greater your potential profit.
Take the basic debossed wristband, for example. This is the classic wristband, just like the famous yellow one that raised millions of dollars for cancer research. If you buy 50 wristbands at $1.87 each, and sell them for $5 apiece, your profit is $156.50.
If, however, you buy 100 wristbands, the price drops to $1.07 each. Sell those for the same $5 apiece, and your profit will be $393. You’ve more than doubled your profit, while your total cost has increased by less than $15. And the price per wristband continues to drop the more you order.
More importantly, your message will be seen. People like to wear custom wristbands, to show their support for a cause. It’s a great way to get the word out to many people quickly.
Getting the Message to People in Need
If you want to reach people directly who can benefit from your organization’s services, custom challenge coins have proven effective. They give you something you can hand out to those who are struggling, that can contain a message of hope and contact information that people can use to reach out for help.
It’s a proven method. The Center for Suicide Awareness gives coins to police departments to hand out to troubled veterans who might be struggling with PTSD, panic disorders and other concerns. The coins contain a text line number, 741741, that the vets can use to reach out for help.
So go ahead, commemorate International Panic Day any way you want. Freak out if that’s what works. But remember, there’s always help available, and powerful, effective ways to increase public consciousness of your cause.
