Customer Spotlight: Jackyl
Is it really rock 'n' rol without a chainsaw?
Rick Cundiff
You might have heard musical saws before, in folk and country music. But odds are, unless you’re a fan of our spotlight band Jackyl, you’ve never heard a musical chainsaw.
The band’s sound has been described variously as “hair metal” and “southern rock.” The band bio on its website describes the sound as “loud, proud and unapologetic rock.” And yes, Jackyl uses a chainsaw in their song “The Lumberjack,” even in live performances on stage.
The hard rocking, hard working band, formed in 1991, has set two Guinness World Records, one for performing 100 concerts in 50 days, and one for performing 21 separate concerts in 24 hours. Their merchandise proudly notes that the band is “Always On Tour.”
Jackyl has toured with, among others, ZZ Top, KISS, and Aerosmith, and has played at Woodstock ’94 and Sturgis Bike Week.
About that chainsaw – lead singer Jesse James Dupree does indeed perform a chainsaw solo in “The Lumberjack.” And believe it or not, it makes sense musically.
Another Dupree episode with a chainsaw ended on a less positive note. According to the band’s website, Dupree once entered a steakhouse with a chainsaw to “surprise” a group of radio programmers. The website notes the stunt led to a lawsuit that reportedly cost the band more than $1 million. A side note: the band’s fans are known as the Chainsaw Mafia.
The band offers fans a variety of merchandise (chainsaws not included) on its website and at shows. Recently, the band ordered custom patches from our Patches4Less.com division.
“We like to offer customers what they ask for and patches are a big ask from Jackyl fans,” said band representative Penny Dupree. “Customers love to purchase patches at Jackyl shows.”
The band discovered TJM online after ordering from other patch providers in the past.
“We loved the prompt response back, answering questions we had and helping with the design process,” Dupree said. “We have purchased from other vendors in the past, but currently only use Patches4Less.”
The patches have proved popular with Jackyl’s fans.
“Customers love the quality, design and detail of the patches,” Dupree said.
As for the band, they particularly appreciate our approach to customer service, she added.
“We find that the pricing is very competitive with other vendors, but we love the customer service and turnaround time with Patches4Less,” she said. “We loved working with customer service to help design our patches. The feedback and end result was perfect for our customers.”
We appreciate Jackyl’s vote of confidence. We do our best to provide our customers with the finest customer service you’ll find anywhere. We are as committed to our performance as Jackyl is to theirs. Granted, we don’t use chainsaws, but we appreciate those who do. Rock on, Jackyl, rock on!
