The men and women who serve at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth are among the thousands of military members who work to keep our nation safe. When it comes to keeping them safe, they depend on the base’s Fire and Emergency Services Department.

Under the command of Chief Samson DeSessa, the department is committed to its mission statement: protecting those that serve America.

The department’s motto is “Yeah, we do THAT!” The department defines it this way: “Our ultimate ‘Why’ is that people matter. So, we want to be able to say, ‘Yes, we can help you whenever you need us’ to our customers, 24/7/365.”

Chief DeSessa is a 23-year veteran of the department, and has served as chief for one year. He wanted a challenge coin to represent his philosophy for the department, so he turned to TJM.

“Coins are a sort of ‘Rite of Passage’ for leadership in the military, fire department and law enforcement industries. We pay for them out-of-pocket, so giving them out the right way (handshake for going above and beyond) has meaning for us,” he said.

“I came up with the expression ‘Brotherhood is a Verb!’ I give leadership presentations for Texas A&M’s Leadership Development Program. I gave this talk at one of their annual Leadership Development Symposiums,” he said

“It was well-received. I thought those that know me would appreciate my ‘fingerprint’ being on the coins.”

Several factors played a role in the Chief’s choice of TJM as his coin provider.

“Upfront pricing, examples of previous products and variety of styles,” were all key contributors, he noted.

Along the way to his current position, DeSessa earned a comparison to the Lion King.

“I was given the call sign “Mufasa” twice, so it stuck the second time,” he said.  Naturally, that became the image for the front of the coin. The reverse is the department’s uniform patch.

Reaction to the coins has been overwhelmingly positive, he said.

“Everyone absolutely loves them! (including me, of course!)”

DeSessa praised our customer service as well.

“Y’all were ridiculously FAST! Conception to my hands was only about 2 weeks!”

Would he order coins from us again?

“100%!! Yessss!!”

When asked how our service could be better, he replied, “I do not believe that to be possible. Thank you to everyone that had a hand in these.”

Thank You for the kind words, Chief. We’re always honored to be able to serve both our firefighter and military communities. We look forward to continuing to be part of the “Circle of Life” for all your custom coin needs!
